Polio Place

A service of Post-Polio Health International

In The Fortune Teller's Kiss

Literary-award winning poet Brenda Serotte uses prose to recall her Sephardic Jewish childhood in post-WWII New York and the dreaded reality of polio in the pre-vaccine era. With bittersweet humor she colorfully relates her family's reaction to her polio and the efforts to overcome disability within the mysterious customs and rituals of her Turkish-born relatives.
