Readable to both the layman and  the physician, the book traces the history of polio from ancient times to the epidemics of this century. John Paul brings readers a detailed, warm and personal story of of the people, events, frustrations and final achievements culminating in the Sabin vaccine. The author (who passed away in 1971) was active in the quest for the epidemiology, cause and prevention of poliomyelitis and was a leader of the Yale Poliomyelitis Study Unit.
