Disability in Twentieth-Century German Culture

A highly recommended work in the growing field of disability studies. Carol Poore, a professor of German Studies at Brown University, examines Germany's history in relation to its social services and the horrors of the Nazi era's attitude towards those deemed "unworthy of life." Researching political, economic social and cultural issues, she profiles the country's contradictory issues towards citizenship, normalcy, stigmatization and morality and also provides her own memories as a disabled person living in Germany.
