Originally published in French in 2004, this English edition offers the views of two science writers as they collaborate to piece together the history and development of poliomyelitis--from ancient Egypt to current eradication efforts in countries such as Pakistan, Nigeria and Niger. Since the 1988 eradication campaign undertaken by the World Health Organization, the global efforts to eliminate the polio virus included the dedicated work of governments, the medical community and international health organizations.
