The Breathing & Sleep Symposium was a free symposium hosted by the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in 2010. Defining neuromuscular breathing basics and empowering people with PPS, ALS, and muscular dystrophy to better participate in their own care. The challenge of understanding how to correctly test and treat patients experiencing neuromuscular respiratory compromise falls mainly on pulmonary doctors, neurologists and respiratory therapists. However, equal responsibility lies with patients to learn all they can to contribute to their own wellness. Putting tools in the hands of patients is a crucial first step in this learning/teaching process.
